College: The Ultimate Search

What can I do if I don't know what or where to study?

Hello bloggers!

I have been through this particular problem for about seven months now. The truth is, this decision requires a lot of introspective work and research. We spend our entire High School experience worrying about where we are headed and what our future will look like. No matter how much research we make, we still have a small part of ourselves that is questioning every single decision we have made so far regarding our professional careers. Luckily... what we study in college won't dictate the final stage of our lives. It is true that your degree in university will give you the tools you need for your future job, but that doesn't mean that your job will be related to your major directly.

Here are some tips in case you are starting your college search or making some final moves in your plan:

- put your favorite music on

- get a refresher

- wear comfortable clothes

- buy a white board

- buy some colorful markers

Now let's begin...

Before you can get to the decision-making process... you must choose a degree that you find appealing or exciting.

- write down things that you enjoy doing

- write down things that you are good at

- circle those where you can actually make money

- relate them to a career (for example; if I like drawing and I am really good with visuals, I could consider studying graphic design)

And now the work...

  1. First you must think about the countries/cities you want to study/live/work in (start with 5 places). Any country... be a visionary... pretend you have got no limits... go big or go home... when pigs fly... and other motivational quotes of some sort ;)

  2. Write them down

  3. Look up for colleges in those countries (at least one in each)

  4. Write them down in a chart under the country/city they belong to

  5. Look up to see if they offer your degree

  6. Write down what the degree they offer related to your interests is called

  7. Look at their program.. How is the degree they offer special compared to the other colleges you've looked at? How many years does the degree have? Do they offer Double Degrees with your career?

  8. Write down all the information you can get related to your specific Major

And now for the worst part... finance. Let's face it... college is expensive. Between tuition, and living costs... college is a huge investment... yet, it is an investment on yourself so it might be worth it:) There are several financial aid programs and scholarships that you might be elegible for. It's time to do some diggin'!!!!

  1. Look up for the scholarships that your college offers

  2. Write down the ones you are elegible for

Once you have covered the financial aspect, its time to compare and contrast. First and foremost, it is really important that you consider the college you felt the most attracted to. Nonetheless, I suggest you apply to at least 5 different universities.

Next step...

APPLY!

Whichever ones you get into, you must decide which country/city/state you like the best, which college offers you the greatest amount of financial support and which school you actually have the resources to go to.

I hope you get into the college of your dreams and get to be a very successful person.

NOTE: Successful doesn't mean rich, successful means happy... so go and be happy ya'll!!
